THE TOUR DE POLOGNE EXPRESSES ITS CONDOLENCES FOR THE PASSING OF HEIN VERBRUGGEN

Warsaw, 14 June, 2017 – The Tour de Pologne joins the entire world of cycling in expressing their condolences for the loss of Hein Verbruggen and in remembrance of the Dutch manager who was President of the UCI  from 1991 until 2005.

“Verbruggen was an essential figure in the modernization of cycling and also in the growth of the Tour de Pologne. There was always a very professional but also friendly relationship between us, and this contributed to a great collaboration with the UCI. I fondly remember his visits here to the Tour de Pologne and how he was immediately impressed by our organization. It was precisely for this reason that when cycling underwent its so-called reform, which led to the formation of the Pro Tour, today’s World Tour, right away he wanted Poland to be a part of this new calendar with the Tour de Pologne, which is still the only race in Eastern Europe that is part of the highest series in world cycling. Verbruggen understood that a great country like Poland, with its rapidly expanding cycling movement, could play a fundamental role in the new process of globalization that cycling is still undergoing,” says the General Manager for the Tour de Pologne Czeslaw Lang.
