[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The first stage will be rather hilly and will unfold throughout wide-ranging hills and unspoiled nature, typical of the Lubelskie region countryside, for a total of 217 km and about 1700m <\/span>elevation gain<\/span>. The finish line awaits the athletes in a beautiful and unexpected square in the historic center of <\/span>Che\u0142m<\/span> and appears to the riders after a 500m cobbled section that will undoubtedly favor the finisseurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s going to be challenging and quite technical as the first stage. It includes tricky climbs and descents in a beautiful area.<\/span><\/p>\n

The gothic castle was built in the 12th century by the High Duke Casimir II the Just over an early-medieval fortified settlement. In that time it would have been a wooden structure before being given a circular keep at the start of the 13th century and stone walls during the reign of King Casimir III the Great in the 14th century. <\/span>In the 17th century, as a result of wars, the castle was destroyed and finally demolished a century later. From the entire castle complex only the Romanesque tower, the Gothic chapel of the Holy Trinity and a section of the Gothic tower have survived to this day. <\/span>
\n<\/span>In the Renaissance body of the castle, tourists can visit exhibitions of the Museum of Lublin, charting the history of the city within the Kingdom of Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Che\u0142m Chalk Tunnels<\/b><\/p>\n

The Che\u0142m Chalk Tunnels are unique in <\/span>Europe<\/span><\/a> and even the world. They are a system of tunnels dug into the <\/span>chalk<\/span><\/a> under the city excavated since the Middle Ages for centuries. The chalk was dug out by the inhabitants, who took it straight from their cellars, and then sold it. After some time the corridors linked up, creating an underground system of corridors. In 1994 this place was entered into the register of historical monuments as a unique heritage of chalk quarrying and today the tourists can visit the underground, shrouded by charming and the mystery of white bear legend.\u00a0 <\/span>
\n<\/span>The chalk undergrounds are thought to measure up to 15 km in length and even now it is not certain where the chalk tunnels really end.<\/span><\/p>\n
