Heroes of the 83rd Tour de Pologne shine at La Vuelta a España

Just a few weeks ago, they were impressing on Polish roads. Now they are enjoying major success at La Vuelta a España. Marco Brenner and Stefan Küng of Tudor Pro Cycling Team, two of the standout riders of this year’s Tour de Pologne, have both claimed stage victories in the final Grand Tour of the season.

This year’s Tour de Pologne proved exceptionally successful for Tudor Pro Cycling Team. Marco Brenner claimed victory in the ORLEN General Classification of the 83rd Tour de Pologne, while his teammate Stefan Küng triumphed on the final stage – the individual time trial starting and finishing at the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Both riders are now confirming their outstanding form at La Vuelta a España.

Marco Brenner claimed the first Grand Tour stage victory of his career. The 24-year-old German was the strongest on Stage 14 of La Vuelta a España, which took the peloton from Jaén to the demanding summit finish at Sierra de La Pandera. The mountainous stage, covering more than 150 kilometres and featuring over 4,000 metres of elevation gain, ended in success for the Tour de Pologne winner. Brenner was part of a large breakaway and successfully fought for victory on the final climb, beating Santiago Buitrago.

A few days later, Stefan Küng followed in his teammate’s footsteps. The Swiss rider won Stage 18 of La Vuelta a España – a 32.1-kilometre individual time trial from El Puerto de Santa María to Jerez de la Frontera. Küng completed the course in 35 minutes and 22 seconds, once again proving that he belongs among the world’s leading time trial specialists. It was the second La Vuelta stage victory of his career.

For Tour de Pologne fans, the result carried particular significance. Just a few weeks earlier, Küng had won the final time trial of the 83rd Tour de Pologne at the Wieliczka Salt Mine in equally impressive fashion. Over the 12.5-kilometre course, he recorded an average speed of 51.9 km/h and secured another stage victory for Tudor Pro Cycling Team.
