Stage 7 – DZIEŃ DOBRY – Tour de Pologne 2022

The sprinters are once again in the spotlight in the grand finale of the Tour de Pologne UCI WorldTour that traditionally takes place in Krakow. This time, the riders will start from the headquarters of Italian company Valsir in Skawina. And although the start and the finish line are not far from each other, the athletes will have to ride almost a 180-kilometre route to get to Krakow. The winner of the 79th Tour de Pologne UCI WorldTour will be announced in the charming city centre, which has been recognized by UNESCO as one of the 12 most valuable architectural sites  in the world

Skawina 

Skawina lies in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, only 15 kilometres south-west of Krakow. The known history of this town dates to 1364, when the last king of the Piast dynasty, Casimir the Great, bestowed it with city rights and held it under his patronage.  Skawina boasts two historic churches and a charming market place in which the market has historically taken place every Thursday for centuries. The visitor can also take a walk in the district of the Sokół palace and many other precious monuments, such as the little church in Wola Radziszowska and the Renaissance manor house in Korabniki.

Wawel Cathedral
This building, on a hill south of Krakow’s Old Town, is a monument of real national importance as it is the site of the coronation and burial of numerous Polish monarchs, national heroes and cultural figures. The current building was completed in the 14th century after the previous two were destroyed or burned down.
Inside, Sigismund’s Chapel – the funerary chapel for the last of members of the Jagiellonian line – is worth a visit. It is a wonder of 16th-century Tuscan Renaissance architecture: under a golden dome the chapel is rich with detailed carved ornamentation, stucco work and tomb monuments by some of the leading sculptors of the day.
