Tour de France with 7 Tour de Pologne Winners
There’s less than a month to go before the start of the 82nd Tour de Pologne. The stage race that precedes the Polish event on the UCI WorldTour calendar is the Tour de France, which has been underway for a week. The biggest race in the world features seven winners of the general classification of the Tour de Pologne!
Summer is the season of great cycling emotions. While waiting for the 82nd Tour de Pologne, fans can enjoy the fierce battle on the route of the Tour de France — the legendary La Grande Boucle, held this year from July 5 to 27. The fight in the French stage race is well underway, and the riders are approaching the halfway mark. Currently, Tadej Pogačar from UAE Team Emirates-XRG is in the lead, with the runner-up being the winner of the 81st Tour de Pologne, Dane Jonas Vingegaard of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. All UCI WorldTeams competing in the Tour de France will line up at the start of the Tour de Pologne in less than a month.
The Tour de France is highly regarded among all riders — both stars and those aspiring to reach the top. On the start list are also cyclists who have previously won the general classification of the Tour de Pologne, further underscoring the quality of the Polish race. Most notably, we should look at riders who may contend for the top spots in the Tour’s GC, like the aforementioned Jonas Vingegaard and also Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick Step). João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) was also a podium contender, but a serious crash on stage 7 dashed his hopes. All these riders have worn the yellow jersey of the Tour de Pologne winner.
Also riding for UAE Team Emirates-XRG are Tim Wellens and Pavel Sivakov, who claimed overall victory in Poland in 2016 and 2019 respectively. Other former Tour de Pologne winners lining up at the Tour de France include Matej Mohorič (Bahrain Victorious) and Ion Izagirre (Cofidis). Many riders taking part in this year’s La Grande Boucle have also won individual stages of the Polish national tour. The only Polish rider in the Tour de France peloton is Kamil Gradek, who rides alongside Matej Mohorič.
Top-level cycling action will return to Poland on August 4, when the 82nd edition of the Tour de Pologne sets off from Wrocław. The race will span 7 days, concluding with an individual time trial finishing near the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine. Like the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia, the Tour de Pologne is part of the prestigious UCI WorldTour, featuring the world’s leading cycling teams.
Thanks to TV broadcasts on TVP Sport, Eurosport, and the MAX streaming platform, the 82nd Tour de Pologne will be available to fans in 65 countries around the globe. You can’t miss it!
